This recently developed technology is a new process for regeneration of Fe-chloride solutions:

a) Fe(2+)-chloride is actually regenerated with classic Pyrohydrolysis (Sprayroaster or Fluid bed). But impurities like Zn, Si, etc. create big troubles.

b) Fe(3+)-chloride can be regenerated with hydrolysis of FeCl3 to Fe2O3 at elevated temperatures.

In both cases when impurities are present or the Fe is mainly in Fe(3+) oxidation state, the classic Pyrohydrolysis cannot be applied.

SOLUTION: new process with electrochemical oxidation of Fe(2+) to Fe(3+) and hydrolysis which is much more efficient and economic than other oxidation technologies
